2 🌟 Super Ideas of the Week

1. Nature Scavenger Hunt:
Take your kids on a nature walk and create a scavenger hunt list of things to find—like a pine cone, a feather, or a specific type of leaf. This activity encourages them to explore and appreciate the outdoors.

2. Storytime Swap:
Host a weekly storytime swap with other moms. Each week, a different mom can choose and read a story to the group, either in person or via video call. It’s a great way to build a sense of community and introduce your kids to new books.

HOW DO WE TELL THEM? (Continued from issue 3)

We are going to have a baby!

So many thoughts are going through our heads as we lay on the bed beside each other.

- Who do we tell first?

- When do we tell them?

- Is it safe for me to be pregnant?

- I have Multiple Sclerosis (MS) that’s one of the reasons I never wanted to be a mom. What should we do?

- Should we consider other alternatives?

- Are we really ready to be parents?

- How did this happen?

So many questions, so many thoughts, so many fears, YET so many SMILES!!!

I have to tell my mom! She is the one who loved to be pregnant. She also is the one who said that she was willing to be my surrogate after we found out that I had MS at the young age of 16 years old.

My husband wanted to tell his dad! He felt that his dad was the one to tell him that what we were doing was the right thing.

After a lot of hugs and kisses and happy tears, we decided to tell our parents BUT no one else until we were into our second trimester. We agreed that we wanted to make sure this pregnancy was going to last because of the elephant in the room known as MS.

We called my parents first. We made sure that my dad was there too when we said the words, “You are going to be Grandparents!”

Grandma-to-be was excited and happy at first but then the elephant was brought up and she said “Are you sure you are going to be ok?” (back to that in a moment)

Then we called his parents and also said, “You are going to be Grandparents!”

Grandpa-to-be was excited and happy at first but then the elephant appeared again and he said, “Are you sure this is a good idea?” (back to that)

YES, I have MS. I had been healthy for over the last 5 years with MS not being a part of our lives. I also had been taking the pill to make sure we didn’t get pregnant. So how come “suddenly” we got pregnant? Here comes the elephant….

I kept getting dizzy and at the same time although I was taking the pill I was having my period at odd times. I went to my gynecologist and asked why was I bleeding? I also went to a new neurologist to find out why I was dizzy.

After seeing these doctors, the question came up from both doctors, “Are you trying to become pregnant?” My answer was, “Not really but we are married so it wouldn’t be a bad thing.”

Both doctors agreed that because I had been healthy for the past 5 years and I was still “young” (27 at this time) it would probably be a good time to “try”.

We learned something called “The Rhythm Method” to NOT get pregnant and used it to get pregnant. YES, it works!

The “getting pregnant suddenly” wasn’t so suddenly because seeing those doctors took a few months to happen.

We explained all of this about the elephant-in-the-room to our parents and they supported us in our decision! But they had to agree to NOT tell anyone until after the new year. The baby was due July 3, after the first of the year we would be more confident that we would be out of the woods.

Thanksgiving, here in the US, is in November and we all agreed that we wouldn’t tell anyone until January.

Morning Sickness doesn’t just happen in the morning! At least not for me, for me it was morning, noon and night so how am I going to hide this when we are having Thanksgiving with the extended family?

HOW DO WE HIDE THIS? Back to that in the next newsletter…

Stay inspired, SuperMOMs!
