“Small joys add up to a big life!”

Tiny feet wear tiny shoes. Tiny shoes bring big smiles and lots of love.

Lena held her breath as she unwrapped the soft hospital blanket, revealing the tiniest feet she had ever seen.

Wrinkled, perfect, and impossibly small, they curled and stretched, unaware of the world waiting for them.

She traced one with her fingertip, overwhelmed by a love so big it filled every corner of her heart.

One day, these feet would take first steps, run through grass, race to the school bus, dance at prom, and walk down the aisle.

Small Joys = Big Life

But today, they simply rested in her hands—a reminder that the smallest moments hold the biggest love that leads to a big life!

What other stresses could there be?…(Continued from issue 16)

Stress, stress, and more stress, the nurse was supposed to review the new things I needed to do once I was released from the hospital FINALLY!

As I sat there on my hospital bed, now in a regular room because I was downgraded from needing the MICU attention after the last test gave no answers. My husband stood there ready to take me home when in came the nurse with a bag of items.

I was just expecting to see papers to sign that I would be released that day but instead she came in a bag of samples, a list of phone numbers for the heart doctors, and instructions for me to follow once I got home.

Oh yeah and a list of home nursing services for me to call because even though I was going home I still needed to be watched due to all the stresses I had been through.

What number are we up to now?...

Keep stress levels low because I am pregnant but…

First, I had the morning sickness which was stressful.

Second, there was all the talk of the world coming to an end due to Y2K.

Third, I was bleeding vaginally.

Fourth, MS made me a paraplegic.

Fifth, my heart rate went above 200 beats per minute.

Sixth, my husband had to be called back to the hospital because the doctors wanted to STOP MY HEART!!!!!

Seventh, my baby could die so we could save my life!

Eighth, why am I still in the hospital?

Ninth, complications for the baby just to do a test?

Tenth, waiting for the results from that radioactive isotope test!

Eleventh, what’s in the bag?

At this time of my life, I am 27 years old. My first ever disability happened when I was 16 years old. The doctors would never confirm that I for sure had MS, but it was very likely. When I was 21 years old the medical field came out with a drug called Betaseron. This drug was an injectable drug that I would have to stick myself with every other day.

Did I tell you that I HATE needles!!!!!??

When I was 21 years old, I had my whole life ahead of me again (I thought I died at 16 but that’s a different story, Jenny’s Journeys). I didn’t want to stick myself with a needle. They couldn’t guarantee that my life would change by sticking myself but what they could tell me was that one of the side effects is that my reproductive system could be affected including instantaneous abortions. I wasn’t looking to get pregnant at 21 years old, but I didn’t want to do anything that could cause my body to abort a potential baby.

What’s in the bag?

Needles - insulin needles, the nurse brought these needle samples to show me what I will need to do once I go home.

Why do I need to take insulin? I don’t have diabetes, do I?

Back to that in the next newsletter…
